Collaboration tools of the past have not seen the mass adoption and seamless integration most expected. Barriers such as security threats, firewall blocks, clunky designs, and confusing interfaces are the source of most of these failures. For example, enterprise employees want to use collaboration tools like Skype, but issues surrounding security, loss of data, and the inability to monitor activity makes management resistant to allow widespread company integration. For collaboration tools to be widely adopted, they not only need to be “user friendly,” they need to be secure.
